Marketing: It’s All About the Lead

If you look at the dictionary definition of marketing in fact, sales is embedded right in there…

mar•ket•ing – the total of activities involved in the transfer of goods from the producer or seller to the consumer or buyer, including advertising, shipping, storing, and selling.

Done right, marketing is the first step or series of steps in the process that ultimately ends in a sale.

After all, the purpose of marketing in the first place is not to create the funniest Super Bowl commercial or the brochure that wins the Addy award, it is to identify companies and individuals who could benefit from your product, make sure those people know all the reasons why their life will be better if they use your product and, in essence get those people to respond in some fashion to create a consistent stream of warm leads that the sales arm of the team can then convert to new business.

In marketing, form cannot drive function, if anything it needs to be the other way around.
